Poojai - Masala 123 'Repeatu'

POOJAI - Masala 1,2 & 3, 'REPEATU'

Cast:- Vishal Krishna, Shruti Haasan, Satyaraj, Radhika Sharathkuar, Jayaprakash, Soori, Pandi, Manobala, Andrea Jermiah, Renuka, Imman Annachi and many many more who come and go to fill screen space...

& Crew:- S'SP/Dir - Hari, Music - Yuvan Shankar Raja the rest really don't really matter

Producer:- Vishal Film factory - Repair bill for cars and equipment must have cost them a bomb!

Give this director a few trucks, cars, suv's, auto's along with GI pipes, lamp posts, sawed knives, clubs, daggers, guns and pistols and he will conjure a movie for you! Honesty actors, performances, story or screen play does not play a major role as far as director Hari is concerned. He does not need CG or computer gimmicks he simply works on the basis of ill logical, unimaginable reality while filming. In all my years of viewing and film making this is the first time i witnessed a car climbing a tree! This scene is followed by a car and auto flying of the road and falling into a lake for no reason whatsoever. An 'adiyal' is hammered by the hero 'Vishal' simply bounces off mother earth like a rubber ball. 'Adiyals' fly great distances defying Newton's law of gravity and at one point of time i began wondering whether some of these guys will transform into flying machines! This director has an unbelievable sequential formula of 123! Scene1 Action Scene 2 Comedy and Scene 3 Romance! He arranges his whole film on this never ending loop!. You sit back and fasten a seat belt ( i recommend that you bring your own seat belt as theaters do not provide you with seat belts). It will help you from being thrown around while watching this film. Don't worry If you fall asleep at any point while watching the film with predictable periodicity an action scene with extremely high decibels of sound will simply jolt you into 'awake' mode. The action scenes have so much of blood, gore and pulpy flesh splattered all over the that it will make a slaughter house appear like a sanitized area! If the director gets bored while watching the rushes he simply instructs the director to super fast forward the scene and at times the whole scene simply becomes a blur of light, colour and loud sound. In fact even the songs are a copies from various films to enable the viewer to test his knowledge base of Tamil film songs. BG score never stops but starts from a loud sound and reaches a crescendo but shuts off just before one becomes deaf and starts once again! The only non violent violent scene in the movie is when Vishal removes the villains dhoti in public! Lets now look at some other aspects of this 'anti gravity action film!'
Acting:- This film boasts of a super hero in Vishal (who also happens to be the producer). He is supposedly a small time 'Kandu Vaddi' financier in Kovai veg market - as usual has a glorious past (flash back thro Soori) . Vishal is either leaping, flying, shooting, clubbing, knifing, killing or driving an SUV for nearly100 mins out of the 140 mins the rest of the time he is purposelessly romancing like a school kid with Shruthi Haasan - She behaves and speaks in 'Mazhalai' Tamil like an anglo indian from Vepery. When will these heroine's stop behaving like immature scantily dressed bimbos and start performing. Then there is Sathya Raj a stalwart who simply looks good in the uniform but literally has no role to play. He is all over the place delivering dialogues in typical kovai dialect with no sense of purpose or direction ! Then there is madam Radhika straight out of a TV serial but sounding like a feel good version of Ramya Krishnan (Padayappa).  We also have Pakkoda Suri who tries his best to humour the viewers but his efforts are in vain as the film by itself is a comedy of sorts. The director tries to replay a poor rehash of the 'Senthil Goundamani' nostalgia which in my opinion falls flat and an absolute insult to the yesteryear pair! by substituting the original with a poor duplicate in Soori and Pandi. Then there is JP suited and booted his role reduced to being slapped, running to save his life and wearing a turban not necessarily in that order. Poor Prathap Pothen why has he sunk to this level in accepting a minuscule role such as this one? He must have been drugged or sleep acting! Then there is the Villain (Sorry i really don't recollect his name) In fact it may serve him better by not naming him. He is a Tamil who runs an 'undercover Kooli' Padai! A Tamil refugee from Bihar! Why Bihar? Probably Lalu Prasad had a major role to play in this part of the screen play! His role is to look serious, shout orders to his stupid 'adiyals'. He gets wet in the rain and repeatedly bashed up by the hero but each time returns to get disfigured all over again! In fact all in all a human punch bag endowed with the intelligence of an amoeba! Then there is Andrea Jermiah who is the HOT item in this film dancing bare feet , bare clothes all over the veg market! They are many other comedians who are 'actually' serious players in this 'desi' version of transformers!

Story:- What Story? Oh! Story! The hero falls in love (sings and dances) He speaks a few comedy lines with his buddy Soori and seeks revenge on all the baddies from Bihar! and sends them all to Mars by sheer 'BASHPOWER'!

Bottom line:- ISRO would have saved tons of money on 'Mangalyan' if only they had used this pair - Hari and Vishal!

My Rating :- 1.25/5 -WOW Points! +.5 for the sheer audacity of the director and producer to make a film like 'Poojai' and conning the viewers to watch it! Total - 1.5/5

Until next time,

Director Haricharan
