Producers: AGS Entertainment (The Kalpathi Agoram Brothers)

PREMISE: Honestly what's wrong with our film producers! Do they really think that such content as in this film will attract viewers on the contrary it will serve as a deterrent and drive them away! Honestly such films as 'Irrumbu Kuthirai' should never have been produced! Here is a classic case of too many cooks spoil the broth! In this case - film! The director has conceived a plot supposedly based on a true incident but believe me there is no real incident in this film worth mentioning. Secondly the camera man, music director, the editor and even the stunt man seem to be moving to corner personal glory. They have not worked as a team at all! No that working in a team will compensate the lack of content and screen play in this film.

The 1st half is so damn slow that it will be more fun to watch a snail doing a 100 m dash. Prithvi (Atharvaa) is doing his CA (Charted accountancy) and doubles as a pizza delivery boy at the Papa john pizza shop in Pondy. Why is he not an intern at an auditor’s office? Very good question indeed! The director has an answer to all our doubts only problem is that he assumes that the viewers are all morons – Answer: Prithvi's mom (Devadarshini) wants her 'ladle' (Chella kutti) son to have some fun. Next Question: How will he then pass the difficult and highly competitive CA exam? The director has an even simpler answer- Prithvi is anyway only going to ride a motorcycle during most of the 2nd half of the film in trying to rescue his girlfriend Samyuktha (Priya Anand)! Simple isn't it! So let me move on before I completely blow my top!
The hero this time a part time ‘CA’ student cum ‘pizza’ delivery boy once again for the nth time falls for the heroine Samyuktha in a bloody bus! (Who by the way has come down from France with her mom to study medicine). But this time it is the Pondy state transport bus. At this point my frustration is now slowly turning into mild rage. The director does not disappoint me and continues with his ridiculous premise and screen play. From this point onwards he takes the viewers on a tortoise ride (pardon my cruelty to animals. It was not intentional) He very slowly after a few blunders and juvenile awkward moments between Priya and Samyuktha makes them finally fall in love! Yay! Not so fast! Yes! The director has a weak trick up his sleeve. Another desperate attempt to make the premise interesting but the ploy fails miserably. Atharvaa's mother continues to foolishly indulge to the whims of her 'fatherless' son. Why? FB - The father dies in an accident witnessed by Atharvaa. This should have made me cry but it actually made me even more angrier with the film maker. Anupama the heroine's mother is either busy doing yoga or talking in an exaggerated English accent. Then there is Samyuktha’s father in France who never really makes an appearance. We do have a comedy quotient in Jagan who at times forces a smile out of you. Prithvi's closes buddy this time Surprise! Surprise! Is a girl (Laksmi Raai). She is tattooed all over and dresses in skimpy clothes and even does an item number. In other words kollywood’s entire glamour quotient bundled into one character. After a couple of poorly choreographed songs the villain of the piece kung fu cum easy bike rider Johnny Try Nguen makes an appearance to recover 'Raven'! What's raven? It’s a 'Dukati' super bike bought earlier by Prithvi to please and woo his girlfriend Samyuktha! End of 1st half which has hardly any content, humor, romance, action or fast and furious bike racing as the title suggests!

2nd half is even more ridiculous as Jhonny abducts Samyuktha and threatens to kill her unless Atharvaa returns the 'Dukati' which by the way he had legitimately bought from a dealer by paying a small fortune. Why does Jhonny go the end of the world to pull this stupid kidnap drama? The director once again comes to your rescue by narrating a stupid flash back- Jhonny's brother had in the distant past raced with Prithvi who was ‘originally’ known as Michael. He then happens to lose his elder brother Jhonny's 'Dukati' in a private motor cycle race with Atharvaa aka Michael. Shamed at losing his brother Jhonny's bike he shoots himself. In fact this shot is stretched to such torturous levels that at this point I simply wanted to stand up and shout obscenities at all concerned in the making of this film. Finally after a protracted (kung fu) action scene between Jhonny and Prithvi in which Atharva looks like a novice compared to Jhonny the director decides to end Prithvi and the viewer’s misery and both of them decide to settle issues by having another bike race for the elusive ‘Dukati’. Samyuktha the dumb heroine that she is simply watches the proceedings!

And the climax what follows is 10 min footage of speed bike racing in France between Prithvi and Atharvaa. (Totally out of ideas the director even passes the onus to the viewer literally pleading with them to imagine that the race is happening in Pondy though shot in France.Though for the love of god I simply could not). I am sure by now you guys have figured out the logical end to this pathetically absurd 2 hour drama. After which I slowly trudged out of the theatre with a splitting headache!

What irked: The story, screen play, direction, acting, and the work of the technicians in trying to corner personal glory for themselves.

What worked: The last 10 min’s had some connection to the title of the film and bike racing. But by that time i had lost interest in the film!

Bottom line: Why this 'Kolaveri' to torture Tamil cinema viewers!

Finally a quote: ‘If you attend this crap with friends who say they like this film inform them they are idiots.’

My Rating: 0.5/5

Until Next Time,
Director Haricharan
